Animals for adoption

Every one of our animals has their own story, personality and needs. Some are open and trusting from the very beginning, while others need a little more time, patience and reassurance. Here you can meet the dogs who are currently looking for a new home.

All of them receive the necessary veterinary care and vaccinations and, before travelling to their new home, are spayed/neutered and microchipped. They are also used to transport crates, as these are part of their daily routine for eating, resting and sleeping.

Thanks to living together as a group every day, our dogs are generally very well socialised and accustomed to being around other dogs, people and different animals. Most are also used to doing their business outside their sleeping area. Still, every dog is unique and will need time to adjust to the routines of their new home.

ALIN

Age: approx. 3 years
Weight: approx. 20 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
Calm, independent and rather reserved
She likes having her own space and finding a quiet place to rest
She really enjoys being petted but doesn’t need to be at the centre of the action all the time
She would be happy in a calm and relaxed home
Little escape artist: she loves climbing and jumping onto kennels, fences and walls 😄

BLAIR
(Waldorf)

Age: approx. 3 months
Weight: approx. 5 kg – and still growing!
A tiny teddy bear with lots of fluffy fur and plenty of charm 🐻
Curious, sweet and eager to discover the world
She is right in the middle of her exploration phase: everything is new, interesting and exciting
Like any puppy, she still has lots to learn: walking on a leash, doing her business outside and gradually getting used to family life
At her age, she still has plenty of growing to do and will probably turn into a proper fluffy little bear 🧡

BRUNO

Age: approx. 3 years
Weight: approx. 14 kg
At the refuge since: April 2026
Super affectionate, sociable and very people-oriented
He loves cuddles and, when he’s happy, makes the most unusual little noises – he almost sounds like a purring cat! 🐱
When you pet him, he presses his head against you and absolutely loves being close
He’s also a little adventurer: he loves climbing onto fences, chairs, benches and pretty much anything else he can find
He seems especially happy when he manages to get up to eye level to say hello 😄
A charming, funny and incredibly affectionate boy who absolutely loves human company 🧡

CALLIE

Age: approx. 3–4 years
Weight: approx. 14 kg
At the refuge since: January 2023 – she arrived when she was still a puppy
Calm, reserved and rather unobtrusive – she isn’t one to constantly seek the spotlight
With people she doesn’t know, she needs a little time and prefers to watch everything from a distance first
Little by little, she gathers courage, comes closer and eventually asks for some affection
She has spent practically her entire life at the Refuge and is still waiting to find a home of her own
Once she feels safe and learns to trust, she shows her affectionate side and really enjoys being close
A sensitive girl who needs a little patience at first but has so much love to give 🧡

CONCHA

Age: approx. 7 years
Weight: approx. 15 kg
At the refuge since: 2019 – she arrived when she was just 3 months old
She came to the Refuge as a puppy after her first family became overwhelmed by all the perfectly normal things a puppy still needs to learn
Seven years have passed since then, and she is still waiting for a family of her own
She is very open, trusting and people-oriented
She loves being petted, receiving affection and simply being close to people
She also really enjoys going for walks and spending time with her humans
She is a wonderful, affectionate and easy-going girl who doesn’t ask for much: attention, love and a place where she can finally feel at home
After so many years at the Refuge, it’s time for someone to discover her and give her all the love she has been waiting for for so long 🧡

COYOTE

Age: approx. 7 years
Weight: approx. 30 kg – although a good part of that is probably just fur 😄
At the refuge since: 28 August 2022
Coyote is a large, calm and very, very fluffy shepherd mix
He is affectionately known as “the secret boss of the Refuge”: he doesn’t need to do much to keep the group together – his presence speaks for itself
Most of the time, he prefers relaxing quietly somewhere or retreating to his own little “private suite” for a nap
When he needs to keep the other dogs in line, one of his characteristic growls is often enough – and it even sounds a little bit like a coyote 😄
With people, he is very affectionate and trusting and absolutely loves being petted and having all that fur brushed
He walks beautifully on a leash, although sometimes he has his own ideas about which direction the walk should take 😉
He enjoys the simple things in life: walks, affection, being brushed and, of course, a good meal
A calm, confident and very affectionate big boy with lots of personality and an enormous heart 🧡

ELSIN
(Él sin ojo - He without an eye )

Age: just over 1 year
Weight: approx. 18 kg
At the refuge since: July 2025 – he arrived when he was still a puppy
Elsin is missing one eye, probably as the result of an accident when he was little. But that certainly doesn’t stop him from enjoying life to the fullest
He is young, active, curious and full of energy: he loves playing, exploring and being right in the middle of the action
He is very people-oriented, enjoys affection and physical contact and is incredibly eager to discover the world
He is still growing out of his adolescent phase and needs a family willing to continue working with him and guide him with patience and consistency
Sometimes he can react impulsively and give an unexpected little nip. He therefore needs attentive people who can respect his signals and help him learn
For this reason, we believe a home without small children would be the best fit for him
A little pirate full of personality, energy and zest for life who, with love, patience and good guidance, can become a wonderful companion 🧡

ENZO
(Enzo Martinez)

Age: approx. 9 months
Weight: approx. 10 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
Enzo arrived as a puppy after suffering a very serious injury to one of his hind legs
He was initially treated and cared for in Solferino, but unfortunately his leg was so badly damaged that it could not be saved and had to be amputated
Today, everything has healed perfectly, and Enzo proves every day that three legs are more than enough to enjoy life
He gets around wonderfully, is active and curious and doesn’t seem to feel limited by his disability
At first, he can be a little shy and reserved and needs a moment to feel safe around new people
Once he gains confidence, the sweet and charming boy inside him comes out
Enzo is a little fighter with an irresistible face and a great desire to discover everything life still has in store for him 🧡

FRESA

Age: approx. 4 years
Weight: approx. 16.5 kg
At the refuge since: January 2023 – she arrived when she was still very young
Fresa is one of those dogs who prefers to observe from a distance before deciding whom she can trust
At the Refuge, she has become something of a little watchdog: when unfamiliar people arrive, she is often one of the first to let everyone know and make sure everything is in order
She spends much of her day relaxing with Mili and Pili in their favourite spot on top of the refrigerator, watching everything going on around them
She usually doesn’t want to go for walks with unfamiliar visitors. She needs time to build trust and prefers going out with Refuge team members she already knows well
With them, she enjoys walks along the beach and will even venture into the sea for a swim 🌊
She is reserved and cautious at first, but behind that little guardian is a sweet girl who simply needs time, security and people who respect her pace
After more than three and a half years at the Refuge, Fresa deserves a calm home where she can finally let her guard down and feel completely safe 🧡

HACHI

Age: approx. 1 year
Weight: approx. 11 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
Hachi is a sweet, sensitive little guy with short legs who needs one very important thing: time to learn to trust
Unfamiliar people, noises, unexpected movements and new situations can frighten him. Even during a walk, he can suddenly feel insecure and want to return quickly to the Refuge – his safe place
That’s why he needs patient people who won’t pressure him or force him to face situations he is still afraid of, but instead allow him to discover the world little by little and at his own pace
But when Hachi decides to trust someone, something beautiful happens: he forms a very strong bond and actively seeks that person’s closeness, contact and reassurance
With someone he trusts, he enjoys being petted and cuddled, can be picked up and looks to his person for guidance and security
On the other hand he is absolutely great with other dogs: playful, curious and super patient with puppies or other youngsters
Hachi needs a calm home and a steady, loving person who can become his safe place and show him that he doesn’t have to face the things that frighten him alone
With patience, security and lots of love, this little guy has everything it takes to become an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion
And it probably won’t take him long to discover that a comfortable bed and a sofa of his own aren’t too bad either 🧡

JOHN SEBIO

Age: approx. 1 year
Weight: approx. 15 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
John Sebio is probably one of the most relaxed guys at the Refuge: while dogs, people, food and plenty of activity surround him, he usually decides it’s the perfect time to… sleep 😴
He is calm, well-balanced and seems to take life remarkably easy
He likes coming over to people for a few pets and, if he finds a comfortable spot, happily falls asleep right beside them
He doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the movement and energy of the other dogs either
On walks, he is calm and relaxed and, so far, has shown no problems when meeting other dogs
He could be a wonderful companion for people who enjoy a quieter life and are looking for a dog to share relaxed walks, affection and plenty of sofa time with
Working from home? A quiet day at the office? John would probably just ask where his bed is. 😉
A young professional napper who doesn’t need constant action to enjoy life 🧡

KIX POOL aka HERSHEY

Age: approx. 1.5 years
Weight: approx. 14 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
Kix Pool was found by Jorge, one of the Refuge team members, alone on the streets of Chiquilá near the harbour
When he arrived, he was very thin and had severe skin problems and hair loss. With care, good food and time, his skin and coat have recovered tremendously, and today he looks healthy and full of life
He is a cheerful, active little adventurer who loves playing, running and roughhousing with his dog friends at the Refuge
His characteristic shaggy coat also gave him his first name: Kix Pool, which means something along the lines of “messy hair” in Maya
But it soon became clear that “Kix Pool” wasn’t exactly the easiest name for many international visitors to pronounce 😄
And that’s how his second name came about: Hershey, inspired by Hershey’s Cookies ’n’ Creme chocolate, whose colours resemble his distinctive mix of white, brown and black fur
And, of course, because this little guy is at least as sweet as chocolate 🍫
Today he responds to Kix Pool, Hershey… or probably any name if there’s playtime, affection and a new adventure waiting at the end
A fun, sociable and energetic boy who has left a difficult beginning behind and is more than ready to start the next chapter of his life with a family of his own 🧡

MOROCHO

Age: approx. 5 years
Weight: approx. 14 kg
At the refuge since: late November 2025
Morocho is a calm and rather reserved boy who doesn’t need to be at the centre of attention
Around new people, he tends to keep a little distance and prefers quietly observing what is happening around him
One of his favourite places is his bench, where he loves resting, sleeping and simply watching the day go by 😴
He is a calm and charming companion who simply needs the chance to find his people and discover how wonderful having a home of his own can be
For Morocho, we are looking for a home where he can feel safe, relax and enjoy life at his own pace 🧡

MUFFIN

Age: approx. 2 years
Weight: approx. 17.5 kg
At the refuge since: early 2025
Muffin is a cheerful, affectionate and very people-oriented girl with an absolutely irresistible smile
In fact, she seems to be smiling almost all the time: her little lip catches slightly on one of her teeth, giving her a very special and adorable expression 😊
She loves being petted, really enjoys human company and happily joins you for walks
Muffin already came very close to starting a new life: she was due to travel to a foster family in Canada in March 2026
But the mandatory tests before her journey revealed heartworm disease (dirofilariasis), which meant she could not fly to Canada as planned
After her treatment, Muffin has made a full recovery and is healthy and is once again ready to find her forever home
So Muffin is still waiting at the Refuge, always with that little smile and her cheerful, affectionate personality
We hope her second chance will be the one that finally takes her on the most important journey of all: the journey to a family of her own 🧡

NIKW

Age: approx. 3 months
Weight: approx. 3 kg
Nikw is still just a baby: small and delicate, with striking blue eyes that immediately catch your attention 💙
He was rescued from a difficult situation and spent his first weeks in the Refuge’s quarantine area
Now he enjoys the company of the other puppies, playing, exploring and discovering the world little by little
Like any puppy, he still has everything to learn and needs a family who will guide him with patience, love and reassurance as he grows
A little explorer who is ready to start a new life with a family of his own 🧡

RED

Age: approx. 8 months
Weight: approx. 10 kg
Red is a small, delicate young girl with little mouse-like ears and an absolutely adorable expression 🐭
Around people, she is shy, reserved and very cautious. At first, she prefers to keep a little distance and needs time to feel safe
But once she begins to trust, she absolutely loves being petted and shows her sweet and affectionate side
With other dogs, you meet a completely different Red: she gets along very well with them, plays, is confident and knows perfectly well how to stand her ground 😄
She also becomes more confident on walks and shows a much more curious and adventurous side
She is still very young and needs a patient family who will give her security and allow her to open up at her own pace
A sensitive little mouse with two wonderful sides: shy around people, but quite the personality among her dog friends 🧡

SASHA

Age: approx. 7 years
At the refuge since: November 2025
Sasha is a calm and relaxed girl who especially enjoys peaceful moments
She doesn’t need to be in the middle of the action all the time and usually prefers a comfortable place to rest and quietly observe what is going on around her
But when food appears, Sasha knows exactly what she wants 😄
With her long body, short little legs and very distinctive appearance, she is hard to miss
A calm and charming companion who deserves a comfortable home where she can enjoy life at her own pace 🧡

TANANI
(and her six little ones)

Age: approx. 1.5 years
At the refuge since: April 2026

Tanani was abandoned near a house, where a neighbour began feeding her. Shortly afterwards, her six puppies were born. The neighbour also cared for the little ones and eventually contacted the Refuge team.

When we went to pick them up, the puppies were only three or four days old.

Tanani also had an old fracture in one of her front legs. The injury had already healed, but the bone had healed in the wrong position and the leg was no longer functional. For this reason, it later had to be amputated.

Today, Tanani has made a full recovery and gets around wonderfully on three legs. After raising and caring for her six little ones, it is now time for this young mum to find a family of her own too. 🧡

TOM
(wie Tom Cruise)

Age: approx. 1 year
Weight: approx. 15 kg
At the refuge since: February 2026
Tom was found on the mainland near Solferino after being attacked by a crocodile, which tore off one of his front legs
He was first treated and cared for in Solferino and, once he had recovered, came to the Refuge on Holbox
Today he gets around wonderfully on three legs, and his disability doesn’t seem to stop him from enjoying life
He is a beautiful, calm and very affectionate dog who gets along very well with both people and other dogs
He loves going for walks and enjoys human company in his calm, relaxed way
Despite everything he went through at such a young age, Tom is a well-balanced and charming boy
A little survivor with a very special story who now needs just one thing: a family with whom he can begin his next mission 🧡
